Week 1: Let's dive into Science!

Well, it is safe to say that the first week of class is always interesting. I always hate having class online for the first time because I am the type of student that needs to be in class to understand what we are going to be doing and how we are going to do it. My 14 year old chocolate lab also added a distraction due to the fact she needs constant attention.
Alright so the important stuff, the course syllabus. It was a lot of information to take in. Blogs, e-folios, unit plans, immediately jumping into field work. My work is seriously cut out for me this semester. Then, possibly the scariest word of them all, the dreaded edTPA. I have not taken the edTPA yet but from what I have heard, it is terrifying. The first thing that came to mind was "well... at least Dr. Smirnova will help me and I will not be so terrified when I student teach!".
Moving on, while I look at all the projects, I could not believe the amount of online work we were going to do. I am not a very technology savvy person, so hopefully by March I will be a pro. One project that I am really looking forward to is the science fair! Sadly, I will be in Florida the night of the science fair but they are something I loved doing in elementary school. I am nervous about the rest of the assignments but I believe as we go through class I will be able to develop a routine to get all of the assignments done with as little stress as possible (hopefully). Overall, I think the technology aspect of this course will become an advantage for myself in the future. Our world and technology is quickly advancing and it is especially important for teachers to have, at least, a basic understanding of technology. It's going to an interesting semester, but I am excited to see what is to come!

  1. I totally understand your dislike of having class online ! I feel like personally I do better face to face with someone rather than over the computer. Hopefully we can get through learning about edtpa and technology together !
